Parents love to hear the words I am board from their children. With the ridiculously full closet filled to the brim with toys it is hard to consider that they could possibly be board, but ironically it still seems to happen. Most kids are happy to do projects and experiments but it can be hard to think these up on the spot sometimes.

There are a number of good reference books such as @@AMAZONTEXT;189568899X;The Anti-Boredom Book: 133 Completely Unboring Things to Do@@ and @@CBTEXT;DAGSSE58;101 Easy Craft Ideas@@

that come in very handy. These books provide a bunch of great suggestions for thinsg you and your child can do together, to keep them busy for hours. These suggest things such as crafts and science experiments.

A great example is helping your child create their own volcano. Start with a dry and clean 20 oz pop bottle and put a 1/4 cup of baking soda into it. You can then take the bottle outside to your child’s sandbox and help them mound sand around the bottle to create a volcano. This is a simple and safe chemical reaction that you child will find incredibly interesting. Next take a cup of white vinegar with a few drops of red food coloring in it. Add the vinegar into the mouth of the volcano and watch as the explosions occurs. Your child will so love this experiement they will want to do it again and again.

You could also help your child create a pinata. Collect old newspapers that you have around the house and cut them into one-inch strips. Next blow a ballon up and open a bottle of white school glue. Put your glue into the bowl and then dip your strips of paper into the glue and place them around the ballon covering it with multiple layers. The thicker you add the newspaper layers, the harder your pinata will be to break. Allow the pinata to dry for at least 24 hours. Carefully cut a round hole into the top of the pinata and then pop the ballon. Poke two small holes through the sides of the pinata and run a thin strand of rope or yarn through it. Next fill your pinata with goodies! Then patch your holes with more newspaper and glue and allow 24 hours for it to dry. Now let your child paint their pinata with acrylic paint. Then simply invite some friends over and let the fun begin.

You have so many projects that utilize things that are normally around your house. Crafts can be a great way to keep the kids busy for hours and give them a positive feeling fo accomplishment.
