Back in 2009, I started realizing I was well on my way to reaching, again, my highest weight. I’m 5’10” and weighed 173 pounds. I’ve never been obese, but for me, weighing 173 pounds was unacceptable. My highest weight ever is 180 pounds and I didn’t want to go there again.
I developed a very simple plan. My goal was to lose weight without giving up the stuff I like. Giving up pizza and going out to restaurants was out of the question for me. I had tried diets like the Atkins one before and I did lose weight, but only temporarily. I realized that diets just don’t work because they are too hard to stick to. It’s impossible to be on a diet for the rest of your life, so what most people end up doing is dieting until they lose the weight, eventually gain the weight back, and diet again.
I developed a plan to lose a pound a week. The reason for this is that I realized that if you really want to lose weight without making major changes and giving up what you like, targeting more than a pound a week is just not realistic. I did lose more, but I considered those pounds a bonus.
