Sunscreen is Worth Remembering

With the summer upon us, it is very important to remember to put on the sunscreen. This is critically important for children more then anything. The skin cancer foundation urges people to put on sunscreens to reduce the risk of skin cancers. One stat listed was that children who get blistering sunburns are at a far more greater chance of developing skin cancer later in life. So why risk your little ones health?

To start, lets talk about the sun’s rays. Those rays which are actually radiation that penitrates the earth atmosphere as Ultraviolet A and B (UV A / UV B). Luckily for us, the atmosphere filters out the more dangerous radiation. The rays are most direct between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm. If possible you should try to avoid being out between these hours. Both UV A & B will burn you and can cause skin damage.

It is very important that babies under 6 months be kept out of the sun. It is important to look into proper shading which can be provided by a @@AMAZONTEXT;B0014I4TYA;UV protected tent@@, if you are going to have them out with you.

Children over 6 months old should have something that protects against both A & B. You ideally will want to find a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. You should also apply it at least 30 minutes before going outdoors.

You will have to decide if you prefer a mineral based sunscreen that contains zinc or titanium such as @@AMAZONTEXT;B002C0CZEU;Loving Naturals zinc based natural sunscreen@@ or if a name brand sunscreen fits your needs better. When the sun is high, it is recommended to stick with wide brimmed hat or UV protectant rated clothing.
